And yet….and yet. Hum. Hrm. Ah-hem. This is awkward.
Thank you.
I always stop to wonder whether or not people like Bachmann or Gingrich or Santorum have ever even studied the writings of Jefferson or Adams or any of the founders… and if they have studied them at length, which I doubt, what do they have to say about these passages?? Do they simply ignore them? Do they suspiciously read over these passages and pretend that our foundation isn’t secular when FUNDAMENTALLY it is clearly secular?
Or do they read the passages and then claim that every single founder had a deathbed conversion or something? They claim that the founders wanted this nation to be run by Christianity, but the constitution says no such thing. The founders say no such thing. They were all either deists or agnostics (I believe Madison was the only founder who considered himself a Christian, but I may have to check that to make sure). They wanted a fundamental freedom of religion for all citizens, as well as a freedom from religion for those of us who have no need of a god.
I am a Christian but seriously ^
